ABOUT TORO

Building healthcare's data layer.

Toro is rebuilding healthcare data infrastructure for the AI era — FHIR-native at the storage layer, with AI workflows that do the work of running a practice.

The thesis

Most EMRs are amnesia machines. The same patient walks into the same practice and gets re-asked the same questions. The same allergy gets missed. The same prior auth gets re-fought. Charts get rebuilt every visit. Specialists don’t see what primary care did. New doctors start from scratch.

Medicine without memory is what doctors deal with today. It’s exhausting for the clinician and unsafe for the patient. AI makes it worse if the underlying data is bad — models hallucinate because the substrate is messy, workflows fail because fields are inconsistent.

Toro is the alternative. We built the foundation right — FHIR R4 at the storage layer, the same standard the federal government, every modern healthcare API, and every interoperability initiative use — and then built AI workflows on top. The result: the EMR that finally remembers. FHIR is the framing. AI is the build.

The platform is young. We’re shipping the foundation now and earning the rest of the claim every release. The architecture is platform-class from day one; the ecosystem of apps, partners, and integrations is what we build with our customers, in the open, over time.

The team

Toro is led by Ashley Tehranchi — Stanford PhD, former co-founder of Mammoth Biosciences (a CRISPR diagnostics company). After years working on the molecular layer of medicine, Ashley left to fix the foundational layer beneath it: the data infrastructure that determines whether medicine actually remembers anything — or whether the next decade of healthcare AI just adds noise on top of broken records.

The bet is straightforward: independent practice is essential, doctors deserve modern tools, patients deserve their data, and standards win. The platform is the expression of that bet.

What we believe

What we're building

The Toro platform is FHIR-native infrastructure paired with AI workflows for the entire practice — clinical documentation, scheduling, billing, member management, patient communications. Read the full platform overview or developer documentation for the technical details.

For practices ready to make the switch, Switch handles migration from any major EMR. For physicians evaluating us, our DPC page is the most direct way to see what your day looks like on Toro.

Where we're heading

Our north star: medicine with memory. An EMR that remembers — every visit, every result, every patient — across providers, across years, across the boundaries today's records can't cross.

We're not all the way there yet. The foundation is shipping now: FHIR-native storage, ambient scribing, member management, public APIs. The full memory promise — every record, every patient, every visit fully connected — is what we earn release by release.
